Transformation Delusion

Why we expect big results when we repeat the same old patterns... and how to change that.

Why do we expect big results when we repeat the same patterns– in our businesses and personally? Most of us react viscerally to this question. Think about the transformations many of us promise ourselves each year. They're called New Year's resolutions. Nearly half of us make them—saving money, losing weight, exercising more. We feel great about our resolutions too. Over 80% of us start off convinced that we'll stick to them. A mere 30 days later, only 25% are still in the game. By year's end, less than 10% have kept their resolutions. That's a 90% failure rate.

What does this have to do with business transformation? Everything. Because business transformation is not just about numbers, it's about people. And businesses sometimes follow the same patterns. But, instead of Happy New Year, your business might be saying, "Happy New... Competition, New Technology, New Customer Expectations, New Inefficiencies, New Growth Opportunities!" All big reasons for big transformation. Big opportunities with big challenges. And businesses don't fare much better with only 20% reaching their transformational goals.

But many leaders have figured it out. In the Transformation Delusion Podcast and upcoming book, we're looking at the repeating patterns that cause people and their organizations to fall short of their transformational goals and the pattern-breakers that can help us reach our aspirations. Transformation Delusion is actionable wisdom from leaders, for leaders, and it looks at the company factors, leadership factors, and human factors that make the difference in getting the kind of transformational change you need.

The first step is understanding your personal and organizational patterns. Check out the video for an introduction.
